WAKO Canada endorses the Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD) of the Ministry of Sport. WAKO Canada has created programs and services that support each level of the LTAD. KICKSTART is one such program. This is a Kickboxing curriculum and activity kit for participants aged 5-10. KICKSTART has a series of games to teach skills in a creative and fun format.
KICKSTART manuals are provided to member clubs upon request.
Seminars for athletes and recreational members are offered by National and Provincial level coaches. Seminars can be booked by contacting the WAKO Canada office.WAKO Canada offers these courses throughout the year as well as professional development opportunities. Coaches can also participate in national and provincial training camps.
Elite level athletes and coaches in the final stages of the kickboxing LTAD can sign up for training camp series to further their skills.
The Level I Course is a requirement for all corner-persons at any of our sanctioned competitions. There are a number of club shows happening in 2025 as well as our 2025 Nationals & Provincial Tournaments and our kick light development tournaments, and all of them require coaches to be certified.
The Course is a Professional Development and Certification program in which participants learn and review current research and methodology of:
- Sports Injury Management
- Athlete Planning
- Strategies for Coaching Excellence
- Sport Ethics and Legalities
- WAKO Rules and Regulations
All Coaches receive a Coaching Manual, a Resource Material and a WAKO Canada Certificate upon successful completion of the Course!
IN THE ZONE is a full day event of learning, practicing, and refining your new skills with a room full of coaches dedicated to growing. Learn how to surpass your own limitations and become a catalyst to unlock and unleash the forces in an athlete to achieve any goal.
Understand the key strategies to keep your athletes thriving in any environment. You will delve into athlete growth strategies, systems and resources that will further drive their success. It’s no secret that massive results come from massive action. IN THE ZONE strategically breaks down the innovative approaches used by some of the most successful coaches to help you discover where your athlete is now and how you can help them reach their goals. By addressing the critical factors impacting most athletes, you can refocus and realign with a winning coaching strategy and psychology to compete and be victorious in any situation.
This course includes the following;
- the rules and regulations for all ring disciplines (Low Kick, Full Contact, K1 and Prestige Bouts)
- the rules and regulations for Kick Light (Tatami discipline)
- the rule of the judge and scoring bouts
- the role of the referee and protocols
- health and safety of participants
- sports injury management
- concussion education
The course is open to all sport enthusiast from instructors, coaches, athletes, martial arts participants, parents and even fans of the sport. The course will provide both education and training. The PSO will continue providing mentorship and support to all newly certified graduates. Participants receive an Officials Manual, Certificate of Competition and resources for enhancing practice.
All WAKO Officials selected for events receive honorariums for events they are selected to work as well as travel expenses. But the best part of being an official is supporting the growth of the sport and having the best seats in the house!
